About Wondergood Food

Since well before this blog was launched, I’ve been obsessed with food. Some of my most exciting experiences have been culinary amazingness and I hope to impart some of that excitement to all the readers. From homemade recipes, to restaurant reviews, to enlightening discoveries of new products, we’re going to get into some sh*t. Currently eating my way through Dallas, I’m the creator of 2 native Texans and married to a smoking hot woman. Get ready to be hungry.

Café Herrera brings Tex-Mex heat to the Omni

I had an opportunity last week to get a sneak peak at the now open, Café Herrera at the Omni Dallas hotel. This marks the continued presence of the Herrera name in Dallas dining scene, consistently serving  good Tex-Mex for decades.

Café Herrera has all you need for a quality and relaxed evening. It starts with a great bar, featuring one of Dallas’s premier bar-men, Dex Gatlin. His drinks do not suck, nor does the atmosphere he’s created with a smart and good-looking staff. Complicated drinks are crafted quickly and oh so tasty. I mean, look at this thing: (more…)

Nicoise Salad with Seared Ahi Tuna

Nicoise Salad with Seared Ahi Tuna - HERO

One of the main issues with “dieting” or changing the way you usually eat, is that feeling of hunger. It comes before, after and even during a meal. It’s annoying and one of the main driving factors people give up on a diet. Typically, you’re removing a lot of the crap you put into your body and it’s that crap that makes you feel full. When having people over and you need to feed folks, the instinct is to go cheap and easy, which typically results in serving bad-for-you food. Toss out some chips and dip, maybe order a pizza and/or wings, pair with an under delivering dip, you know the drill. It’s a sad state of hospitality affairs.

However, if you want to feel a little better about yourself and have your company go home secretly thrilled for being feed well (“healthy”), I got a recipe for you.

Enter: Greek Meatballs with Avocado Tzatziki Sauce and Spinach Salad.

Fashion magazines are notorious for presenting clothes and models in impossible-to-reach-scenarios for the everyman (or woman). I sure as shit don’t have a size 30” waist or look good in black skinny jeans. Sometimes I think maybe, maybe that look could work on me. But it doesn’t. I’ve tried to put those pants on and getting it over my calves is a problem. Sad, Matt.

I can say the same for many of the cooking/food magazines. Beautifully plated dishes using ingredients you can only get at a farm or specialty shop. How the hell am I supposed to “render beef tallow”? Wait, to make this soup I have to boil a whole chicken, take it apart and then make a stock of the bones? Oh, because I have an extra 17 hours to make that happen? Come on, now.
